In its pursuit of engineering recruitment and HR consulting services JSM Appointments respects first and foremost your right to confidentiality and is committed to ensuring the privacy of your personal information. We abide by the ten national privacy principles outlined in The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000. The following statement explains how we collect, manage, store and use your personal information:
How we collect your personal information
We collect your personal information directly from you whenever this is possible, and this will typically be when you deal with us by telephone, letter, fax, e-mail or when you visit our engineering recruitment website and use our on-line engineering jobs enquiry form.
Generally, the type of personal information we collect about you is the information that you submit along with your application or curriculum vitae. This will typically include your name, address and contact details as well as your engineering career history, qualifications and other information relating to your career.
We may in some cases also collect more sensitive information about you such as information about your health or any disability, your racial or ethnic origin, membership of a professional association or any criminal record that you may have. This type of information will only be collected with your prior consent and only in situations where the information is considered relevant and essential for the provision of our engineering recruitment and HR consulting services.

JSM Appointments undertake to deal with requests to provide information within a reasonable time. In some circumstances a payment for our costs may apply for supplying you with requested information.
Reasons why we collect personal information
To assist you in finding and/or retaining engineering employment.
To provide you with engineering career planning advice and guidance.
To use for any psychometric tests or assessments you may undertake, and when receiving the results of a psychological or competency test or obtaining performance feedback about your work.
On occasions when we seek to obtain personal information about you from a third party without your prior consent we will take reasonable steps to inform you that we have collected personal information. We will not attempt to conduct any reference checks without your prior consent.
In cases where you are representing a client organisation or service provider we may collect personal information to facilitate HR consulting services or engineer recruiting to or by JSM Appointments.
It should be noted that pursuant to Section 42 of the Employment Agents Act 1976 of Western Australia, we are required to collect the following information about individuals looking for engineering jobs, and maintain a register of this information for a period of 3 years: the applicant's full name and residential address; the nature of and the conditions and remuneration applicable to the engineering employment sought or offered; such other particulars as may be prescribed.
How we use and disclose your personal information
We use and disclose your personal information primarily for the purposes it was collected. However we may use or disclose information for other related purposes such as providing you with one of our career planning, training or coaching services. JSM Appointments does not send your personal details, engineering career profile, resume or CV to other parties for the purpose of securing your employment or a contract with them or their associates without first obtaining your explicit permission. The name and details of potential employers will be discussed with you before we send them any personal information.
We may disclose your personal information to the following parties:
- Potential employers, particularly those seeking to fill vacancies associated with engineering jobs.
- JSM Appointment’s clients who may wish to engage your services as a contractor.
- Organisations that conduct competency or psychometric tests.
- Referees nominated by yourself to gather information relating to previous engineering employment.
- Insurance companies or other bodies requiring details for the purpose of Workers Compensation.
- Suppliers of services to us (such as migration agents). We undertake to take reasonable steps to prohibit such suppliers from using personal information except for the purposes for which it was supplied.
- In some cases we may disclose information to the Australian Federal Police to verify whether you have a criminal record.
- Educational or training organisations to verify your qualifications.
Maintaining and updating your personal records
JSM Appointments may contact you to verify that information on our records is correct and up to date. However we encourage you to contact us if your personal information changes and we will endeavour to update and correct the information.
Our arrangements for the security of your personal information
Our filing system to store your personal information is maintained on both secure electronic and hard copy media. JSM Appointments has established and rigidly maintains procedures to ensure the security and confidentiality of your personal information.
Information gathered by us when using our website
We may use a statistics tool to gather information about all users of our engineering recruitment web site collectively. Information gathered may include what pages users visit most frequently and the services users access the most. This data is used anonymously and in the aggregate. The data does not disclose the identity or any personal details of the user accessing our engineering recruitment website.
To provide reliable and secure engineer recruiting and HR consulting services JSM Appointments uses a remote server to host their website and we may store your personal information provided via our on-line engineering employment enquiry facility on this server. By providing personal information via our websites (for example applying for engineering jobs) you agree your information may be transferred to a remote server used for this purpose.
JSM Appointments will not disclose information about your individual visits, application or enquiry for engineering jobs or on-line enquiries without your consent.
