What is the client paying for?
JSM Appointments' placement fee covers a client’s share of the overall engineering recruitment service it provides.
We provide HR consulting services and JSM Appointments is not an agent and does not profess to have any form of ownership over candidates presented. The client is not paying directly for the candidate or a CV, but rather for the engineer recruiting services on offer.
When a company decides to appoint an engineering professional that has been referred by JSM Appointments, it has satisfied itself that the placement will deliver outcomes conducive to the growth and success of its business. The placement fee is the client’s recognition of the fact that the features and benefits offered by JSM Appointments have contributed to this outcome.
- A significant component of the fee covers a portion of JSM Appointments' overheads, costs and risk associated with the range of ongoing activities that provide clients with a timely shortcut to available and appropriately skilled engineering professionals.
- Part of the fee can also be associated with the direct cost of the engineering recruitment process and candidate management.

How is the fee derived?
The placement fee is calculated as a percentage of the successful applicant's gross annual salary package.
The larger amounts earned by JSM Appointments for higher income earners reflect both the impact a candidate's output will have on the client’s performance as well as the higher level of consulting skill required to source and properly assess more senior engineering professionals.
For the reasons stated below once-off placements typically incur higher percentage fees than those representing regular business with a single client:
- In the latter case the effort required to compile knowledge of the client’s business is distributed among several placements.
- The component of the fee that covers a portion of JSM Appointments’ engineer recruiting overheads is effectively shared among several placements with a single client.
- A commitment to repeat engineering recruitment business reduces commercial risk for JSM Appointments.
