Most Brits considering life downunder
Almost three-quarters of Britons have considered leaving the UK this year, with most of them wishing for a life in Australia, a new study has found.
The main reasons given for wanting to start a new life abroad included the poor state of the economy (31 per cent) and a lack of job prospects (23 per cent).
Around one in 10 (12 per cent) said a change in the pace of life was the main attraction.
The survey, carried out on behalf of foreign exchange brokers Currency UK and released on Sunday, found Australia was the favoured destination for would-be expats.
A third of those questioned (33 per cent) said they had considered moving Down Under with a quarter (26 per cent) saying Canada was their dream destination.
"Our survey highlights that many Brits are concerned by the prospect of a hung Parliament and that the next four years will be dominated by huge tax rises, cuts in public service and inflation," said Adrian Jacob, from Currency UK.
"People are concerned about the country's economic strength and this is leading to Brits looking to get out."
There were 1029 people who took part in the survey.
